We have a two amazing dogs, that hold special places in our hearts. I
could not help referencing them in the book. Luna is our old girl at sixteen years
of age and is barely hanging on. We live every day wondering if she is going to
make it through to the evening. Yet she just keeps going. My hubby jokes that
she is going to outlive us all. We swear we can see her smiling at times.
Everyone who has ever met her thinks that she is a soft and kind soul, and they
are right. Biamba is the latest addition to our family, although it has already
been a couple of years. He quickly crawled into our hearts, and with good
reason. He is clumsy, quirky and filled with expression. He spends his time
looking after Luna. If she goes outside, he follows her to make sure she is
okay, and he checks on her constantly. Because Luna is hard of hearing, when I
get the treats out, Biamba will go and call her so that she doesn’t miss out.
Having come from the pound, there are always associated behavioural problems
that need to be ironed out. Biamba was very insecure in the beginning, and it
took him a long time to understand that this is his forever home. He can now
confidently jump into the car whenever we go for a ride, knowing that we will
not drop him off on the side of the road or at the pound. It took him a while
to trust us. And if we went anywhere near his ears in the beginning, even to
stroke them, he would cry out in alarm and shy away from us. But now, ear rubs
are his favourite thing in thew world. We consider ourselves very blessed to
have them in our lives.
